Safeguarding is one of the most important responsibilities you have as someone working in homelessness services. The people you support are often among the most vulnerable adults in England — people who have experienced abuse, neglect, exploitation, or violence, and who may be at risk of further harm.
The Care Act 2014 introduced a statutory framework for adult safeguarding in England — establishing clear duties for local authorities and clear expectations for services and workers. But safeguarding is not just about legal duties and procedures. At its heart, it is about protecting people's rights to live free from abuse and neglect, while respecting their autonomy and dignity.
This module introduces the foundations of adult safeguarding. It covers what safeguarding means, why it matters, who it applies to, the six safeguarding principles, and your responsibilities as a frontline worker or volunteer.
This is a Foundation-level module. It is relevant to everyone working in homelessness services, regardless of your role. Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility — not just specialist workers or managers.
