Your Professional Development: Using the Homelessness Skills Framework

Foundation15 min read

Professional development is easy to deprioritise. When the day is full — the crises, the paperwork, the people — thinking about your own learning and growth can feel like a luxury. But the evidence from homelessness services is clear: workers who invest in their own development are more effective, more resilient, and more likely to stay in the sector.

The National Homelessness Skills Framework, published by Homeless Link, gives you a comprehensive map of the knowledge, skills, and behaviours that underpin excellent practice in homelessness services. It is designed to support your development — whether you are new to the sector or experienced — by helping you understand where you are now and where you want to go.

This module introduces the Framework and explains how to use it. It is practical: by the end, you should have a clearer sense of your current strengths, areas for growth, and how to take your development forward.

This is a Foundation-level module within Subject 3: Professional Practice and Reflective Skills.
