Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is the main disability benefit for working-age adults in England. It provides financial support to people whose long-term physical or mental health condition or disability affects their ability to carry out daily living activities or get around.
PIP is one of the most important — and most commonly missed — sources of financial support for people experiencing homelessness. Many people who would qualify for PIP are not claiming it, either because they do not know about it or because the application process is complex and daunting.
This module provides a clear introduction to PIP — who qualifies, how much it pays, how to apply, and how the assessment works. It draws on Age UK's PIP Factsheet (April 2026), which provides current rates and detailed guidance. It is a Foundation-level module within Subject 8: Benefits and Financial Inclusion.
