Mental health crises happen. They happen to the people you support, and they may happen at times when you are the person present. Knowing what services are available, how they work, and how to access them is one of the most practically important things a frontline homelessness worker can know.
This module gives you a clear overview of the mental health crisis services in England — from community crisis teams to crisis houses, from A&E to Section 136. It explains what each service does, who it is for, and how to access it. It draws on Mind's Guide to Crisis Care.
This module is designed to give you the knowledge to navigate the system and help others navigate it. It is not clinical guidance — for clinical decisions, specialist mental health professionals are the appropriate resource.
This is a Foundation-level module within Subject 5: Mental Health and Wellbeing.
