Anti-oppressive practice asks us to look beyond individual interactions and consider the structural inequalities that shape people's lives — and our own position within those structures.
This module invites you to reflect on your own power, privilege and assumptions, and to consider how these can influence the support you provide. It is not about self-criticism or guilt. It is about developing the self-awareness that enables more equitable, effective practice.
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- Explain what anti-oppressive practice means in a homelessness support context
- Reflect on your own position, privilege and power in the support relationship
- Identify ways in which structural inequalities shape the experiences of people you work with
- Apply anti-oppressive principles to your everyday practice
